Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
We have investigated possibilities of preservation and revitalization of the old orchard with old apple cultivars at the Rehabilitation Centre 'Ozalj'. By determining the state of the plantation, it was noted that some fruit trees are close to extinction and the orchard wasn't regularly maintained. After taking samples of fruits, determination confirmed they were cultivars 'Bijeli zimski kalvil', 'Bobovec', 'Božićnica', 'Crveni delišes', 'Jonathan', 'London peping', 'Lijepocvjetka', 'Šampanjka' and 'Zeleni štetinec'. After the basic physical analysis and putting fruits in cold storage with normal atmosphere, it was determined that analised cultivars signifficantly differ in investigated characteristics. By the means of quality the best cultivars were 'Bijeli zimski kalvil' and 'London peping' because they had the highest weight, height and width, and the lowest weight loss. After removing fruits from cold storage, the highest rate of healthy fruits were found in the cultivars 'Bobovec' (92%) and 'Jonathan' (90%). In order to prevent further declining of this orchard, it would be necessary to revitalize it in a way that trees which are still in good shape needs to be prune strongly, gradually within a few years and from trees which are dying needs to take the scions, and graft them on a vegetative rootstock. By dying out of trees of old cultivars our natural and cultural heritage and genetic diversity is lost, this cultivars that have over the years adapted to local environmental conditions can also be the basis of organically grown fruits.
