Abstract
Brojni ekološki problemi povezani sa stočarskom proizvodnjom rezultiraju povećanjem konkurencije izvora hrane i hrane za životinje čime hrana za životinje predstavlja "prijetnju" globalnoj sigurnosti hrane. Potencijalna strategija koja bi mogla smanjiti konkurenciju hrane i hrane za životinje te ublažiti utjecaj stočarstva na okoliš je zamjena jestivih krmnih kultura biomasom nejestivom za ljude u hranidbi životinja. Primjer takve zamjene je korištenje suhog kukuruznog tropa s otopinom, DDGS-a. Suhi trop s otopinom nusproizvod je koji, uz CO2, nastaje tijekom procesa proizvodnje etanola i koristi se u hranidbi mliječnih krava i junadi, goveda, svinja, riba te peradi. Bogat je hranjivim tvarima: proteinima, vlaknima i lipidima. Upotreba DDGS-a kao alternativnog krmiva u hranidbi životinja daje obećavajuće proizvodne rezultate uz istovremeno ekološki pozitivno smanjenje emisije stakleničkih plinova.
Abstract (english)
Numerous environmental problems associated with livestock production result in increased competition between food and feed sources making feed a “threat” to global food security. A potential strategy that could reduce food and feed competition and mitigate the environmental impact of livestock production is to replace edible forage crops in animal nutrition with biomass inedible for humans. An example of such substitution is the use of distiller's dried grains with solubles, DDGS. Distiller's dried grains with solubles is a by-product which, in addition to CO2, is formed during the ethanol production and it is used in dairy cows and cattle, pigs, fish and poultry nutrition. It is rich in nutrients: proteins, fiber and lipids. The use of DDGS as an alternative feed provides promising production results with an environmentally positive reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
