Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Traditional varieties of fruit species are the wealth and natural heritage of each country. They are significant due to economic and biological reasons, especially in recent times, due to the consumers' increasing interest in fruit produced without the use of chemical agents. Many varieties which are rare and locally spread are now irretrievably gone, and today they are hard to find. With the goal of preservation, we have researched morphological and pomological characteristics of most common traditional varieties of apples in the Bjelovar-Bilogora County. The similarity between some varieties frequently results in the use of inaccurate names, and due to the same reason there has been a problem with variety identification. The goal of the research is the determination of the traditional old varieties and selection of those that are characterized by better economic features. Based on the research of the pomological characteristics we have determined and we singled out varieties: Jonatan, Kanada, Šampanjka, Zlatna zimska parmenka and Božićnica. These varieties can be recommended for the seedlings production and the revitalization of the production assortment in the study area. Because of the diversity of pomological characteristics, fruit quality and resistance to adverse abiotic and biotic factors, traditional varieties are important to preserve as a source of genetic variation and as a biodiversity factor in areas in which they grow.
