Abstract	Ovaj rad bavi se važnošću etike i pravilnog izvještavanja u novinarstvu, kao i poviješću novinarstva, osobinama, uzrocima i posljedicama lažnih vijesti koje danas predstavljaju sve veći problem u društvu. U radu se također naglašava važnost medijske pismenosti i kritičkog razmišljanja, kao možda najefikasnijih sredstava u borbi protiv širenja dezinformacija i lažnih vijesti ili korištenja medijskoga alata pomoću kojeg određene strane stječu veliki utjecaj ili materijalnu korist. U radu će se prikazati i ukratko objasniti plan Europske unije u borbi protiv dezinformacija kroz tri različita naslova koja se bave tematikom važnosti borbe, posljedicama dezinformiranja i strategijama koje se koriste u svrhu sprječavanja budućeg objavljivanja i dijeljenja dezinformativnog sadržaja u europskim, ali i drugim zemljama. Cilj je rada prikazati trenutnu informacijsku krizu koja je uzrokovana sve češćom pojavom lažnih vijesti i dezinformacija u medijskom sadržaju te njenu povezanost sa političkim djelovanjem što ponekad onemogućuje pravilnu funkciju demokratskih procesa prilikom, primjerice, predsjedničkih izbora ili referenduma.
Abstract (english)	This paper deals with the importance of ethics and proper reporting in journalism, as well as the history of journalism, characteristics, causes and consequences of fake news that are an increasing problem in modern society. The paper also emphasizes the importance of critical thinking and media literacy as perhaps the most effective means in combating the spread of misinformation, fake news and usage of media tools through which certain parties gain greater influence or material profit. The paper will also briefly present and explain the European Union's action plan on combating fake news and misinformation through three different titles that deal with the importance of combat, consequences of misinformation activities and strategies that will be used to prevent future publications and sharing of misinformation content in Europe and bordering countries. The aim of this paper is to present the current informational crisis caused by an increasing appearance of fake news and misinformation in the media content, as well as the connection between the crisis and political activities, which sometimes prevent the proper functioning of, for example, presidental elections or referendums.
