Tourism is the most important branch of Croatian economy and the developmental spark of many Croatian regions. Mass tourism has been suppressed by the development of many selective types of tourism, with „city break“ being one of the most popular types. The „Travel Industry Dictionary” defines this type of tourism as a short break in urban destinations that includes accommodation and transportation (Travel Industry Dictionary, 2017). This term can encompass the broadest spectre of other types of tourism that are being developed in a particular destination and are inseparably connected to culture tourism. Modern tourists are more and more demanding and the modern technology and the development of transportation systems have made every destination within reach. The competition is everywhere and everyone, and the most successful are the ones whose offer and amenities guarantee an unforgettable experience for the visitor. The development of manifestations as a sort of extension to the cultural tourism offer has proven to be an excellent way to attract visitors (as seen in many destinations) and Zagreb has decided to follow that example and create many smaller and larger manifestations based on different concepts. This paper demonstrates the role and the importance of the „Advent in Zagreb“ manifestation, which has influenced immensely the positioning of this destination on the European tourist map and secured it the distinction and the number of tourists that has been increasing every year. For this paper, along with the analysis of secondary sources, the primary research by in-depth interviews have been conducted to ensure a more detailed and expert insight into the object of the analysis. The opinions of the examinees have confirmed the immense significance of this manifestation for the development and the promotion of Zagreb as a tourist destination.
