Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Members of Chironomidae family are one of the most dominant and diverse aquatic macroinvertebrategroups in all types of water bodies and have an essential role in food webs, energy flow and ecosystemfunctioning. First research of this family in Croatia started 35 years ago, but even today we do not have acomplete check list of Chironomidae in Croatia. In this study Chironomidae pupae and exuviae were collected ina ten-year period. Total number of collected species is 90, of which 69 is a new record in comparison to FaunaEuropaea database. The most frequent species are Synorthocladius semivirens, Paratrichocladius rufiventris,Cricotopus bicinctus and Paratrichocladius rufiventris (Orthocladiinae). Also, Nilotanypus dubius(Tanypodinae), Paratendipes albimanus (Chironomini) and Tanytarsus ejuncidus (Tanytarsini). This datarepresent a platform for the preparation of the first comprehensive Chironomidae check list for Croatia, andcontribute to overall knowledge of biodiversity for both Croatia and Europe.
