Abstract
Višak ugljikohidrata koji se ne iskorištava kao izvor energije se pohranjuje u zalihe glikogena. Zasićenjem glikogenskih zaliha, višak ugljikohidrata se metabolizira putem de novo lipogeneze i pretvara u mast te se pohranjuje u masnom tkivu. Zalihe glikogena mogu primitii do 500 grama glikogena prije nego što započne de novo lipogeneza. Ovaj fenomen je važan radi prevencije nakupljanja masti u tijelu (debljanja). S druge strane, visoka koncentracija lipida u krvi smanjuje osjetljivost na inzulin, što vodi intoleranciji glukoze koja može dovesti do štetnih kroničnih stanja (dijabetes, rezistencija na inzulin).

The excess of carbohydrate which is not primarily used as source of energy is stored as glycogen. By saturating the glycogen stores, carbohydrate excess is metabolised by de novo lipogenesis pathway and is turn into fat and stored in adipose tissue. Glycogen stores can recieve up to 500 grams of glycogen before inducing de novo lipogenesis. This phenomenon is important due to prevency of acumulating fat in body (obesity). On the other hand, high lipid concentration in blood reduces insulin sensitivity, which leads to glucose intolerance and subsequently to deleterious chronic states (diabetes, insulin resistance).
