Abstract

This research reports on the achievement effects of cooperative learning in the subject of Biology. The research was carried out during the 2014 2015 school year. In the research were engaged students that attended High School for Math in Osijek. The research consisted of the initial assessment, gathering the average biology marks, the assessment of learning styles using the VARK questionnaire, processing of the teaching topics and the final assessment. The students were processing the teaching content through cooperative learning. They were divided in groups according to their learning style. In homogeneous groups students were learning through teaching methods that suited their learning style while in heterogeneous groups students were learning through teaching methods that did not suit their learning style. Through the analysis of the initial and final assessment it was found that the first group of students achieved better results in final assessment. It was also found that the students who selected teaching methods which favored their own learning styles achieved better results.
