Abstract
Stevija (Stevia rebaudiana Bert.) je dobar izvor prirodnih antioksidansa. Kako se zbog pozitivnogdjelovanja stevije na ljudsko zdravlje proširuju njeni uzgojni areali i na kontinentalna područja Hrvatske,potrebno je istražiti antioksidativni odgovor u listu stevije na pozitivnu nisku temperaturu. U skladu s timspoznajama, istraživan je utjecaj pozitivno niske temperature (4oC) na ukupnu antioksidativnu aktivnost,aktivnost enzima katalaze i gvajakol peroksidaze te na koncentraciju H2O2, koncentraciju produkata lipidneperoksidacije i koncentraciju ukupnih fenola u listovima stevije. Kratkotrajno izlaganje niskoj temperaturidovelo je do povećanja aktivnosti antioksidativnih enzima (katalaze i gvajakol peroksidaze) te istovremenogsmanjenja koncentracije H2O2 i koncentracije produkata lipidne peroksidacije. Nasuprot tome, dugotrajnoizlaganje niskoj temperaturi, uzrokovalo je oksidativni stres što se očitovalo u povećanim koncentracijama H2O2i produkata lipidne peroksidacije. Kratkotrajno izlaganje stevije pozitivnoj niskoj temperaturi moglo bi imatipozitivan učinak na razvoj otpornosti biljaka na različite nepovoljne abiotičke i biotičke čimbenike

Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana Bert.) is a very good source of natural antioxidants. Nevertheless,because of its positive effects on human health, it would be useful to expand stevia breeding areas to temperateregions of Croatia. So, it is necessary to investigate the antioxidative response of stevia leaves to the lowtemperature treatment. In accordance with these findings, the effects of a positive temperature (4oC) on the totalantioxidant activity, catalase and guaiacol peroxidase activity and the total concentration of H2O2, lipidperoxidation products and total phenols in leaves of Stevia were investigated. The short-term low temperatureexposure led to increased activity of antioxidant enzymes (catalase and guaiacol peroxidase) and reduced H2O2concentration and the concentration of lipid peroxidation products. In contrast, during prolonged exposure to lowtemperature, the oxidative stress occurred as reflected in increased concentrations of H2O2 and lipid peroxidationproducts. Short-term low temperature exposure of stevia could have a positive effect on the plant resistancedevelopment to various adverse abiotic and biotic factors
