Abstract
Akumulacija kadmija u biljkama uzrokuje različite fiziološke, biokemijske i strukturalne promjene. Selen je mikronutrijent koji u niskim koncentracijama djeluje pozitivno na poboljšanje rasta i povećava antioksidacijsku sposobnost biljke tijekom izlaganja različitim vrstama okolišnog stresa. Glavni cilj ovog istraživanja bio je utvrditi kako obogaćivanje sjemenki selenom utječe na antioksidacijski odgovor u korijenu i izdancima klijanaca dvije sorte pšenice (Divana i Srpanjka) tretiranih različitim koncentracijama kadmija. Pozitivan učinak obogaćivanja sjemenki selenom na ukupnu masu klijanaca i enzime askorbat-glutationskog ciklusa u klijancima tretiranim kadmijem bio je sortno-specifičan.Obogaćivanje sjemenki selenom značajno je povećalo aktivnosti katalaze u korijenu klijanaca obje sorte pšenice tretiranih najvećom koncentracijom kadmija. S obzirom da je aktivnost katalaze biološki pokazatelj otpornosti pšenice na toksičan učinak kadmija, obogaćivanje sjemenki pšenice selenom može se primijeniti kao uspješna metoda povećanja otpornosti pšenice na oksidacijski stres uzrokovan kadmijem

The accumulation of cadmium in plants cause a variety of physiological, biochemical and structural changes. Selenium is a micronutrient that in low concentrations has a positive effect on improving growth and antioxidant capacity of plants exposed to different types of environmental stress. The aim of this study was to determine how the enrichment of seeds with selenium affects the antioxidant response in the roots and shoots of two varieties of wheat (Divana and Srpanjka) seedlings treated with different concentrations of cadmium. The positive effect of selenium enrichment of seeds on the the total weight of seedlings and enzymes of ascorbate-glutathione cycle in seedlings treated with cadmium was cultivar-dependent. Enrichment of seeds with selenium significantly increased catalase activity in the roots of both wheat cultivars treated with the highest concentration of cadmium. The activity of catalase is a biological indicator of wheat resistance to cadmium toxic effects, so selenium enrichment of wheat seeds can be used as a successful method of increasing wheat resistance to oxidative stress caused by cadmium.
