Abstract
Devizno tržište je mjesto susreta ponude i potražnje deviza. Obavljanje poslova na deviznom tržištu popraćeno je zaključivanjem ugovora, pa se razlikuju: spot ugovor, forward ugovor, futures ugovor, opcijski ugovor, valutni swap te devizni swap. Država može intervenirati na deviznom tržištu radi povećanja ili smanjenja novčane ponude i osiguranja stabilnog deviznog tečaja. Devizna arbitraža predstavlja kupnju deviza na jednom tržištu i njihovu prodaju po višoj cijeni na drugom tržištu s ciljem ostvarenja manje zarade, u pravilu bez rizika, dok devizna špekulacija označava trgovanje valutama s određenim rizikom, a radi velike i brze zarade. Svaki gospodarski subjekt koji obavlja poslovne transakcije u valuti različitoj od nacionalne izložen je deviznom riziku čiji su uzrok fluktuirajući devizni tečajevi glavnih svjetskih valuta. Devizni tečaj formira se na deviznom tržištu kao cijena valute jedne zemlje izražena u valuti druge zemlje, a pokazuje koliko je domaćeg novca potrebno dati za jednu ili stotinu jedinica stranog novca te kao takav nije fiksan već je podložan promjenama. Devizni tečaj može biti: nominalni i realni; paritetni i disparitetni; bilateralni i multilateralni (efektivni); spot i forward; fiksni i fluktuirajući. Promatrajući devizni tečaj u dugom i kratkom roku utvrđuje se da je podložan promjenama i to zbog devalvacije i revalvacije u sustavu fiksnih, odnosno deprecijacije i aprecijacije u sustavu fluktuirajućih deviznih tečajeva. Zlatni standard (valute većine zemalja konvertibilne u zlatu po fiksnoj stopi) i Brettonwoodski sustav (konvertibilnost američkog dolara u zlato) su fiksni devizni tečajevi. Ciljanje deviznog tečaja predstavlja fiksiranje vrijednosti domaće valute u zlatu ili nekoj od većih valuta.
Abstract (english)
Foreign exchange market is the place where the supply and demand of foreign currencies meet. Whenever a deal is struck on said market, the contract is made. There are different types of those kind of contracts: spot contract, forward contract, futures contract, currency option contract, currency swap and foreign exchange swap. A country can undertake a state intervention on foreign exchange market in order to stabilize the foreign exchange rate by altering the money supply. Foreign exchange arbitrage represents buying a foreign currency on one market and selling it on another while making profit with little or no risk at all. Foreign currency speculation, on the other hand, represents trading foreign currencieswith a certain risk involved but with greater profit. Every economic entity that deals with foreign currencies is subjected to foreign exchange risk, a result of the fluctuating exchange rate of the main currencies. Foreign exchange rate is basically a price of one currency expressed in another. In other words, it shows the quantity of one currency needed to obtain one or hundred units of another currency. That being said, it is only natural for the foreign exchange rate to variate. Furthermore, foreign exchange rate has several classifications and can also be viewed in short or long term. It can appreciate and depreciate or reevaluate and devalue depending on whether it is floating or fixed (e.g. gold standard and Bretton Woods system). Pegged exchange rate system represents binding the national currency with gold or another major currency.
