Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Lifelong learning pertains to each learning activity during a person’s life aimed at enhancing knowledge, skills and competences in personal, civic, social or professional pursuits. It encompasses learning at all stages of life (from early youth to old age) and the forms through which it is accomplished. Nowadays, this form of education draws great attention due to people’s desire to change careers in the course of their professional life, continually adapting to the demands of the job market and following the needs of the economy while using the acquired knowledge and skills toward career development. Cooperation between educational institutions and economy is essential, but it is also very important to take into consideration the needs of individual branches and jointly introduce innovations into the system of education. Today’s education also needs to be transferable in the European job market, so that the qualifications acquired in Croatia can be recognised in the European market as well. While the quality of education is essential, it is also of special importance to know how to connect general and vocational practical knowledge. The thesis attempts to present educational systems, differences between lifelong education and learning and the importance of lifelong education in career development.
