Abstract
Računalne igre postaju raširenije i pristupačnije sa sve većim mijenama njihovih uloga. Jedna od novijih je ona u službi kulture s ciljem prenošenja znanja o istoj. Primjera dobre prakse korištenja formata video igre za promociju kulture je avanturistička platformer igra sa zagonetkama Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchune) iz 2014. godine koju su razvili tvrtke Upper One Games i E-Line Media u suradnji s Cook Inlet Tribal Council (neprofitna organizacija koja pomaže domorodačkom stanovništvu Aljaske). Odabrana računalna igra temelji se na tradicionalnoj kulturi (vjerovanjima, usmenoj predaji, uporabnim predmetima, umjetnosti...) aljaške domorodačke zajednice Iñupiat s čijom je direktnom suradnjom oblikovana. Na primjeru spomenute računalne igre se kroz rad prikazuju načini na koje se elementi kulture oblikuju za virtualni svijet stvarajući multimodalnu komunikaciju te na načine prenošenja značenje kulturnih aspekata igračima s krajnjim ciljem prepoznavanja računalne igre kao posrednika domorodačke kulture i njihovog kulturnog identiteta.
Abstract (english)
Video games are becoming more widespread and accessible with constantly changing roles they play in society. One of these is their cultural role whose aim is to communicate knowledge about a certain culture or community. An example of good practice in that field is the adventure platformer-puzzle game Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchune) created in 2014 by Upper One Games and E-Line Media in collaboration with Cook Inlet Tribal Council (a non-profit organization that aids Alaska’s Indigenous people). This video game is based on the traditional culture (beliefs, oral tradition, tools, art...) of the Alaskan Iñupiat indigenous community with whom it was devised and produced. Using the Never Alone game as its case study, the paper shows how elements of culture are transformed into a virtual world, how elements of multimodal communication are used and how their meanings are conveyed to players with the ultimate goal of recognizing video games as potentially influential cultural agents.
