Abstract
Potres je prirodna pojava kojeg označavaju nagli, kratkotrajni i iznenadni pokreti Zemljine kore. Područje nastanka potresa nalazi se ispod Zemljine površine i to mjesto nazivamo hipocentar ili žarište potresa. Nastankom potresa u hipocentru valovi se šire prema Zemljinoj površini. Na području Zemljine površine, gdje je potres najjači nalazi se epicentar potresa. Najpoznatiji potresi na Zemlji su tektonski potresi. Takva vrsta potresa najučestalija je i na našim prostorima. Najpoznatiji potresi u Hrvatskoj bili su u Dubrovniku 1667. godine, zatim u Zagrebu 1880. godine, u Imotskom 1942. godine, a i posljednji koji se dogodio bio je ponovno u Zagrebu 22. ožujka 2020. godine. Posljedice ovih potresa bile su ogromne materijalne štete, ali nažalost i ljudske žrtve. Seizmološko aktivno područje na kojem se Hrvatska nalazi upravo je razlog učestalim potresima.
Abstract (english)
Earthquake is a natural occurrence which is manifested as aseries of sudden, short term and unexpected movements in the Earthꞌs crust. The area where earthquakes happen is located beneath the Earthꞌs surface and it is called hypocentre or an earthquake focus. After an earthquake happens at hypocentre, its waves are distributed towards rhe Earthꞌs surface. The place owhere an earthquake is felt the most on the surface of the Earth is called an epicentre. The most common type of an earthquake on the Earth is called a tectonic earthquake, and also this type is most common in our geographical region. When we speak about well-known earthquakes in Croatia, we must mention the earthquake in Dubrovnik in 1667, in Zagreb in 1880, in Imotski in 1942 and the most recent one in Zagreb on 22nd of March 2020. Their consequences were great material and economical losses, but also losses of human lives. Croatia is located ina seismologically active region, which is the main reason for such a frequent earthquake activity.
