Abstract
Prva hrvatska štedionica u Zagrebu bila je dio srednjoeuropskog kruga razvoja modernih štedionica i  bankovnih  institucija  polovicom  19.  stoljeća,  neznatno  zaostajući  za  tadašnjim  bankovnim  trendovima  u  Srednjoj  Europi.  Praštedionica  je  osnovana  1846.  godine  kao  posljedica  općeg  gospodarskog,  kulturnog,  znanstvenog  i  političkog  buđenja,  poznatog  kao  razdoblje  Narodnog  preporoda, te izgradnje snažnog nacionalnog identiteta. Prva hrvatska štedionica je na početku  poslovanja imala štednih uloga u iznosu od 77.556 forinti i dobit od 1.892 forinte 1847. godine.  Kasnije je na svom vrhuncu u njenom portfelju bilo 16 banaka i kreditnih zavoda s četrdeset i jednom  poslovnicom diljem  Kraljevine Jugoslavije, sa sferom interesa  u pedeset i  jednom industrijskom  poduzeću, pet velikih trgovačkih kompanija i sedam prometnih dioničkih društava. Dugo vremena  Prva hrvatska štedionica bila je najjača i najaktivnija financijska institucija na slavenskom jugu s  velikim internacionalnim ugledom
Abstract (english)
The first Croatian Savings Bank in Zagreb was a part of the Central European development of the contemporary savings and banking institution in the mid-19th century, lagging only slightly behind the banking trends in the Central and the South Europe. The Savings Bank was established in 1846 in Zagreb as a result of the general Croatian economic, cultural, scientific and political waking up, and building of the Croatian national identity. The first Croatian Savings Bank started working with annual investments of only 77.556 Hungarian florins and profit margin consisting of 1.892 florins in 1847. Later, at the culmination of its development Savings bank's portfolio consisted of 16 banks and credit institutions, and of 41 branch-offices accros the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, with the business interest in 51 industrial enterprises, 5 large commercial companies and 7 traffic joint stock companies. It was the most powerful and most active financial institution on the Slavic South with a large international business reputation
