Abstract (english) It is common to analyse literature or films using the anthropologic view; therefore, it is also common to use the same view in analysing works dedicated to animals. This thesis attempts to mainly conform the cultural-anthropologic reflection of the novel “The Life of Pi” in order to emphasise the existence of various animals that surround the mankind, especially the tiger as the main character in the novel and in the film. The tiger in “The Life of Pi” is the centre of every story; he is the main character in all events and his appearance influences lives of all non-human and human characters in the novel and in the film. Through examination of the relationship between a man and an animal, the thesis is based on understanding the communication between the tiger and the boy and their struggle to live in the sea, an uncommon equation for both of them. The thesis particularly focuses on the relation between the intellect and the instinct, what the tiger has and the boy doesn’t have, and vice versa, the basis of the connection amongst the living beings in the nature. The thesis also analyses questions related to religions and their relation towards the animals which are often portrayed as religious symbols and used as metaphors appearing in stories, legends, comparisons and messages which they send to people. In this thesis, we emphasised the importance of the usage of colours and light as prominent natural elements and their contrast magnifies the power of natural appearances which are important secondary elements in description of the relationship between a man and the animal. Special attention is given to the problem of zoo gardens whose anthropologic views exclude the importance of an animal, currently a very important subject in understanding the relationship between a man and an animal.
