Abstract (english) The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of partial sleep deprivation on mood, squat jump (SJ) and countermovement jump (CMJ) performance. 23 physical education female students volunteered in the study and were randomly divided to experimental and control group. The experimental group was subjected to two days of partial sleep deprivation with less than 4 hours of sleep per night. The control group kept their habitual sleep habits. The amount of sleep was measured with the mobile application Azumio and with a sleep diary. The participants were tested in squat jump, countermovement jump and mood before, and after two days of the experimental procedure. The participants were always tested at the same time. First, they filled up a wellness questionnaire for the assessment of mood. After that, the participants performed a standardized warm-up protocol. After the warm-up protocol they were tested in the squat jump and in the countermovement jump. Statistical significant difference was found between the experimental and control groups after two days of partial sleep deprivation in mood and in squat jump performance. In addition, statistical significant difference was found between the initial and final measurement in mood and in the squat jump performance in the experimental group. No difference in either variable was found in the control group. The results indicate that partial sleep deprivation negatively affects mood and squat jump performance, with no effect on countermovement jump performance. In conclusion, it is important to use strategies that will reduce partial sleep deprivation and in that way prevent the negative effects on mood and performance.
