Abstract
U ovom radu proučavamo svojstva kvadratnih proširenja racionalnih brojeva. Prvo klasificiramo sva kvadratna proširenja polja racionalnih brojeva, onda definiramo njihove odgovarajuće prstenove cijelih brojeva, te nalazimo njihovu strukturu i karakteriziramo jedinice u njima. Nakon toga dokazujemo jedinstvenost faktorizacije ideala u prstenovima cijelih brojeva kvadratnih po- lja, te istražujemo kako se ideal generiran prostim brojem p iz Z faktorizira u njima. Definiramo klasnu grupu i dokazujemo njezinu konačnost. Raspravljamo o problemu određivanja kvadratnih polja s klasnim brojem jedan, te u tom kontekstu iskazujemo takozvane Cohen-Lenstra heuristike. Za kraj, dokazujemo da je svako kvadratno polje sadržano u nekom ciklotomnom polju.
