Abstract	Gotovo svi sportaši koriste neki od dodatka prehrani. Popularnost različitih pripravaka vitamina, minerala, biljnih droga i njihovih kombinacija mijenjala se tijekom godina. Tijekom posljednjih 10-ak godina, od dodataka prehrani među sportašima posebno se ističu pripravci biljke Tribulus terrestris L. – po raširenosti primjene, svojstvima koja ima se pripisuju i stalnom rastu tržišta.Tribulus terrestris L. je jednogodišnja biljka koja pripada porodici Zygophylaceae, porijeklom iz mediteranskog područja, ali danas široko raspostranjena u toplim krajevima Europe, Azije, Amerike, Afrike i Australije. Uz jedinstveno botaničko ime,Tribulus terrestris L., ovisno o geografskom položaju koriste se imena poput babin zub, kozja glava, bikova glava, đavolji trn, a u ajurvedskoj tradiciji poznat je kao gokshura.Tribulus terrestris koristi se i kao dodatak prehrani u sportu s uvjerenjem da poboljšava sportske sposobnosti i vitalnost. Raznolik kemijski sastav Tribulus terrestrisa u vidu glikozida, steroidnih saponina, biljnih alkaloida i bioflavonoida svjedoči o potencijalnoj bioaktivnosti i medicinskoj važnosti što je potvrđeno in-vitro te istraživanjima na životinjama. Ne čudi stoga podatak da dodaci tribulusa bilježe konstantan porast na tržištu dodataka prehrani. Štoviše, povoljna cijena sirovine te relativno visoka cijena izlaznog proizvoda postavili su tribulus na tron industrije dodataka prehrani.Međutim ne postoje klinička ispitivanja koja bi isti učinak potvrdila kod ljudi te je potrebno daljnje istraživanje da bi se utvrdilo djelovanje tribulusa kod sportaša.
Abstract (english)	Most of the athletes use food supplements. Various vitamins, minerals, herbal preparations or their combinations have gained variable popularity over the years. Over the past decade, preparations of the herb Tribulus TerrestrisL. have become among the most popular ones – based on their widespread use,attributed properties and continuously growing market. Tribulus terrestris L. is an annual plant that belongs to the family Zygophylaceae, native to the Mediterranean region, but is now more prevalent in warm regions of Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Australia. With the unique botanical name Tribulus terrestris L., depending on the geographical location common names are: puncture vine, goat head, bull head, gulancha tinospora, and in the Ayurvedic tradition it is known as gokshura. Tribulus terrestris also used as a dietary supplementis belived to improve athletic performance and vitality. It has a diverse chemical composition in the form of glycosides, steroid saponins, plant alkaloids and bioflavonoids, which have potential bioactivity and medical importancewhich was confirmed by in-vitro and animal studies.Therefore, it is not weird that tribulus supplements are constantly increasing on the market of dietary supplements. Furthermore, low price of raw material and relatively high price of final product have set up tribulus on the throne of dietary supplement industry. However there are no clinical studies in order to confirm the same effect in humans, and further research is needed to determine the effect of tribulus in athletes.
