Abstract
Godinama unatrag, dok još nisu postojali uređaji i pomagala za navigaciju, pomorci su se tijekom svojih plovidbi orijentirali pomoću zvijezda. Koristeći sekstant, kronometar i kompas, pomorci su relativno precizno mogli odrediti svoju poziciju na moru. Drevni pomorci koristili su se zamišljenom mrežom pomoću koje su označavali zvijezde na kartama, prema kojima su se orijentirali. Uz pomoć spomenutih instrumenata, pomorci su određivali zvijezde, udaljenosti među zvijezdama te su poznavali zviježđa, što im je služilo za određivanje pozicije vlastitog broda i kursa plovidbe. Pomorci su se u prošlosti orijentirali uglavnom kroz prepoznavanje zviježđa Velikog i malog medvjeda, Lovac, Kasiopeja, Pegaz i Južni križ te zvijezda koje im pripadaju. Za nalaženje zviježđa i zvijezda koristili su se alignmenti, odnosno zamišljene linije i produžetci pravaca između dviju poznatih zvijezdi.
Abstract (english)
Back in time, when modern navigational devices and aids were not in use, seafarers oriented with the help of stars during their navigation. Using sextant, chronometer, and compass, seafarers could reliably determine their position at sea. Ancient sailors used an imaginary net to mark the stars on the maps that help them with the orienting. With the help of the before mentioned instruments, sailors recognized stars, distances between the stars, and knew the constellation, which they used to determine the position of their own ship and their sailing course. In the past, sailors oriented mainly through the recognition of the Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, Orion, Cassiopaea, Pegasus and the South Cross constellations and with the brightest stars they belong to each constellation. For the recognition and identification of the constellation and the stars, alignments were used. Alignments are imagined lines or the extension of the line between two known stars.
