Abstract
Mnogi dijagnostički sustavi koji se danas primjenjuju u medicini se zasnivaju na temeljnim fizikalnim pojavama. Jedna od najpoznatijim tehnika medicinskog oslikavanja je pozitronska emisijska tomografija (PET). Princip rada PET-a se temelji na detekciji dvaju fotona nastalih pri anihilaciji pozitrona. U reakciji pozitrona s elektronom dolazi do stvaranja dvaju gama zraka energije 511 keV koje se emitiraju pod kutom od 180°. U Laboratoriju za nuklearnu fiziku konstruiran je scintilacijski detektor od LFS scintilacijskog kristala i 4 × 4 MPPC silicijskog fotomultiplikatora. U ovom diplomskom radu mjerene su energije gama zračenja koje potječe od anihilacije pozitrona nastalog pri β+ raspadu izotopa natrija 22Na. Također su ispitana i važna svojstva detektora kao što su energijska i vremenska razlučivost. Osim toga, istražene su i ovisnosti amplitude dobivenih signala iz detektora o naponu, ovisnosti amplitude signala o temperaturi i kako udaljenost točke interakcije kolimiranog snopa gama zračenja od fotomultiplikatora utječe na dobivene signale.
Abstract (english)
Many diagnostic systems that are used in medicine today are based on fundamental laws of physics. One of the most important techniques for medical imaging is positron emission tomography (PET). PET is based on the principle of detecting gamma radiation which is produced by electron-positron annihilation in which we observe two resulting photons, both having an energy of around 511 keV and are emitted at an angle of 180°. In our nuclear physics laboratory, a scintillation detector was constructed out of LFS scintillation crystals and 4 × 4 MPPC silicon photomultiplier. In this diploma thesis, we measured the energy of gamma rays from the annihilation of positrons which were created by β+ decay of sodium isotope 22Na. Some important detector properties were also evaluated, such as energy and time resolution. In addition, we explored signal amplitude dependence of voltage, signal amplitude dependence of temperature and how the gamma beam distance from the photomultiplier affects the obtained signals.
