Abstract
Školjkaši (Bivalvia) pripadaju koljenu mekušaca (Mollusca). Sjedilački su ili polusjedilački vodeni organizmi koji se hrane filtriranjem vode. Strujom vode im u organizam dospijeva kisik i hranjive tvari, ali i štetne tvari dospjele u vodeni okoliš. Sama životinja ima brojne načine kako izbaciti te štetne tvari iz organizma, a jedan od njih je mehanizam multiksenobiotičke otpornosti, skraćeno MXR mehanizam. Mehanizam izbacivanja štetnih tvari čine ABC transportni proteini koji korištenjem energije ATP-a prebacuju štetnu tvar iz citoplazme u izvanstaničnu tekućinu. Međutim, MXR mehanizam se može narušiti. Pronađene su tvari koje djeluju kao inhibitori ABC transportnih proteina, tzv. kemosenzitatori. Inhibicijom MXR mehanizma školjkaš akumulira ogromnu količinu štetnih tvari u svom tijelu (škrge, probavna žlijezda, gonade i dr.). Ukoliko čovjek konzumira tog školjkaša doći će do trovanja koje može rezultirati i smrću. Upravo zato se danas u ekotoksikološkim laboratorijima diljem svijeta proučava MXR mehanizam. Bitno je uočiti koje tvari djeluju kao kemosenzitatori i pri kojim koncentracijama kako bi se mogao odrediti raspon dopuštenih koncentracija tih tvari u vodi.
Abstract (english)
Bivalves (Bivalvia) belong within phylum of mollusks (Mollusca). They are sedentary or half-sedentary aquatic organisms which feed by filtering water. Supply of water in their body brings oxygen and nutrients, also contaminants due to the aquatic environment. Animal itself possess numerous ways to throw those harmful substances out of the organism. One of those ways is mechanism of multixenobiotic resistance, shortened MXR mechanism. This mechanism consists of ABC transport proteins that transfer harmful substance from cytoplasm to extracellular fluid by using ATP molecules as energy source. However, MXR mechanism can be disrupted. There were found compounds which acts as an inhibitors of ABC transport proteins, the so-called chemosensitizers. Inhibition of MXR mechanism causes enormous accumulation of toxic substances in bivalve tissues (gills, digestive gland, gonads, etc.). If people consume these bivalves, poisoning will occur which can result in death. Therefore today in ecotoxicological laboratories around the world the MXR mechanism is studied. It is important to notice which substances act as chemosensitizers and at what concentrations in order to determine a range of allowed concentrations of these substances in water.
