Abstract
Mimikrijska hobotnica je isključivo morski organizam koji pripada razredu glavonožaca. Otkrivena je 1998. godine i od ostalih se izdvaja po svojoj mogućnosti da bojom, izgledom i teksturom tijela imitira ne samo okolinu, već i brojne lokalne vrste. Također, smatra se da nije otrovna jer joj u protivnom ne bi bio potreban tako razvijen sustav mimikrije. Iako u prirodi postoje vrste koje mogu bolje imitirati čak i neke od vrsta koje imitira i mimikrijska hobotnica, one su specijalizirani imitatori. Za sada je mimikrijska hobotnica jedina vrsta koja može oponašati tako raznolik niz oblika i još k tome u trenu odlučiti koji će oblik preuzeti. Dovoljno je inteligentna da raspoznaje predatora te imitira životinju koju predator izbjegava ili čak predatora svog predatora. Vrsta je još uvijek slabo istražena te se zbog nedovoljno informacija o brojnosti ove vrste ne zna gotovo ništa. Pretpostavlja se da nije ugrožena vrsta te da još nije otkrivena u svim prirodnim staništima jer u Atlantiku postoje mjesta gotovo identičnih uvjeta kao i u Indijskom i Tihom oceanu gdje ona živi.
Abstract (english)
The mimic octopus is an exclusively marine organism that belongs to the class of cephalopods It was discovered in 1998 and it stands out for its ability to change its skin color and texture in order to blend not only with the environment, but also to imitate the appearance of many local species. It is considered that it is not toxic because otherwise it would not have developed such complex system of mimicry. Many animals are much better at imitating the same species as the mimic octopus but it is the only currently known marine animal to be able to mimic such a wide variety of animals. It is intelligent enough to recognize a specific threatening predator and mimic animals known to deter it. The species is still poorly researched and due to insufficient information its abundance is unknown. It is assumed that it is not an endangered species and that it has not been discovered in all of its natural habitats yet; in the Atlantic there are places with almost identical conditions as in the Indian and Pacific ocean, where it lives.
