Abstract
Nastoji se prikazati ozbiljnost problema zagađenja u Baltičkoj regiji, te tako i samog Baltičkog mora. Nakon kratkog pregleda osnovnih karakteristika Baltičkog mora kao što su položaj, postanak, temperatura i ledeni pokrov, salinitet, dubina, funkcionalne zone i obale, naglasak se prebacuje na vrlo ozbiljne probleme i utjecaje na okoliš prisutne u ovoj regiji. Počevši od globalnih utjecaja, poput izgaranja fosilnih goriva i smanjenja ozonskog omotača koji bitno utječu na klimatske promjene i tako na globalnu atmosferu, pa sve do posljedica iskorištavanja nuklearne energije i utjecaja radioaktivnog otpada. Istaknuti su prijedlozi smanjenja atmosferskog utjecaja korištenjem alternativnih energetskih sustava, odnosno obnovljivih izvora energije. Nadalje, rad se nastavlja baviti pitanjima ozbiljnih utjecaja polutanata u zraku na zdravlje ekosustava i zdravlje čovjeka, te acidifikacijom i eutrofikacijom kao jednima od najozbiljnijih suvremenih ekoloških problema ove regije i uzrokom mnogih regionalnih „mini“ ekoloških katastrofa.
Abstract (english)
This paper aims to show the seriousness of the problem of pollution in the Baltic Sea region, and therefore the Baltic Sea itself. After a brief overview of the main characteristics of the Baltic Sea, such as position, origin, temperature and ice cover, salinity, depth, functional zones and the coast, the focus switches to the very serious problems and environmental impacts present in this region. Beginning with global impacts, such as combustion of fossil fuels and the reduction of the ozone layer which significantly affect climate change and also to the global atmosphere, to the consequences of the exploitation of nuclear energy and the impacts of radioactive waste. Proposals of reducing atmospheric impact use of alternative energy systems and renewable energy sources are featured. Furthermore, work continues to address issues of serious impacts of pollutants in the air on the health of ecosystems and human health, as well as acidification and eutrophication as one of the most serious contemporary environmental problems of the region and the cause of many of the regional "mini" environmental disasters.
