Abstract
U ovom diplomskom radu bavili smo se krivuljom poznatom kao Descartesov list te nekim njezinim poopćenjima. Uz različita zanimljiva svojstva, Descartesov list ima i istaknuto mjesto u povijesti matematike, jer ta je krivulja poslužila kao povod za sukob velikih matematičara Descartesa i Fermata polovicom 17. stoljeća. Na primjeru određivanja površine omeđene ”petljom” ove krivulje pokazuje se kako je Fermat primjenjivao metode koje su za to doba, prije punog razvitka diferencijalnog i integralnog računa, bile iznimno domišljate i dalekosežne. Stoga je u radu naglasak na ”kvadraturi” petlje kako Descartesova lista tako i njegovih generalizacija iz 20. stoljeća.
Abstract (english)
In this diploma paper, we have dealt with the curve called the folium of Descartes, and some of its generalizations. Besides its various interesting characteristics, the folium of Descartes also has a prominent place in the history of mathematics, because it has served as a cause of conflict between the two great mathematicians, Descartes and Fermat, in the mid-17th century. In the example of determining the area enclosed by the “loop” of the curve, it is visible that Fermat has been using methods which have been ingenious and far-reaching for his time, namely before the full development of differential and integral calculus. Therefore, the emphasis of the paper is on the “quadrature” of the loop of the folium of Descartes as well as its generalizations from the 20th century.
