Looking at the position of the young people in the labor market we can see that the high unemployment rate is visible in Croatia as well as job insecurity for those who are employed. In this paper, we devoted our attention to watching young people who have managed to integrate into the labor market and we examined what kind of work did they carried out with regard to the level of education that they acquired and the field of their education. We call this a match between employment in which person is working and previously acquired education, and it could be observed vertical and horizontal. Vertical match is considered to be one that is between level of education and level of education required for the job that the employee works, while the horizontal match is between employee’s field of education and areas of necessary knowledge and skills to perform the job on which the employee works. In the context of the appearance of horizontal and vertical match, using three modes of survey research we will examine their presence in the population of young people in the Croatian labor context with regard to their level of education achieved, and we will check whether these conditions are associated with job satisfaction of young people as well as their perception of career success. We expect that there are differences by level of education in match anticipating that both horizontal and vertical match increases with higher educational attainment. We also expect that there are differences in job satisfaction and perception of career success while those who are more matched have higher results in job satisfaction and evaluate their career success better. The results show the highest level of match within the highest level of education, such as pointing out that those employees who are simultaneously adjusted both horizontally and vertically recorded the highest level of job satisfaction and career success. At the end we will critically look back at the results, show the practical implications of the current knowledge of the area and point out some of the so far unanswered questions for future research.
