The proven success of dental implants has revolutionized prosthetic therapy and contributed to the functional, aesthetic, and psychological rehabilitation of patients after tooth loss. Due to the lack of a periodontal ligament, dental implants biomechanically respond differently, compared to teeth, during occlusal loading. For planning implant-prosthetic rehabilitation, it is necessary to know biomechanical principles for dental implants. Therapy plan for each patient should be approached as an individual case and literature guidance should be used to satisfy function and aesthetics, minimizing the potential overloading and other complications. Defining occlusal schemes and the occlusal concept for implant supported prosthetic rehabilitation is extremely important and requires consideration. All relevant facts should be considered and guidelines from the literature should be followed as part of planning occlusion for implant supported prosthetics. There is no consensus in the literature on a specific occlusion concept for implant prosthetic restorations. The reason for this is the lack of scientific evidence. Most of today's guidelines are based on the concept of implant-protected occlusion and mutually protected occlusion during functional movements of the lower jaw. With good occlusion planning and good prosthetic superstructure design, we can avoid the risk factors that lead to occlusal overload. This paper describes the guidelines for the design of occlusion schemes for different types of implant prosthetics, taking into account important factors to avoid occlusion overload and the complications it carries.
