Abstract	U radu je prikazan parodontni apsces kao akutna lezija sa brzom destrukcijom potpornih tkiva zuba. U stomatološkoj praksi važan je zbog visoke prevalencije među hitnim stanjima. Obično je povezan s parodontitisom i parodontnim džepovima i javlja se kod neliječenih pacijenata i kod pacijenata za vrijeme potporne terapije. Parodontni apsces je glavni uzrok ekstrakcije zuba i gubitka zuba kod pacijenata za vrijeme potporne terapije. Može za posljedicu imati komplikacije zbog bakterijemije i izazvati infekciju na udaljenim mjestima. Opisani su etiološki tipovi: parodontni apsces povezan s parodontitisom i parodontnim džeovima i parodontni apsces koji nije povezan s parodontitisom. Mikroflora parodontnog apscesa je složena, dominiraju gram negativne bakterije. U terapiji su prisutna tri pristupa: drenaža, sistemski antibiotici i parodontna kirurgija.
Abstract (english)	This study discussed periodontal abscess as an acute lesion, resulting in rapid destruction of tooth-support structures. Its importance in clinical periodontal practice is important due to its high prevalence amongst dental emergencies. It is ussualy closely related with periodontitis and periodontal pockets, affecting untreated patients as well as patients during maintenance. Periodontal abscesses are one of the main causes of tooth extraction and tooth loos, mainly in maintenance patients. Periodontal abscesses may result in complications, due to bacteriemia, that may cause infection in distant locations. Regarding etiology there are two tipes described: periodontal abscess directly associated to periodontitis and periodontal abscess in the absence of periodontitis. Microflora of periodontal abscess is complex, dominated by gram-negative bacteria. There are three treatment regimes for periodontal abscess: drenage, sistemic antibiotics and periodontal surgery.
