Abstract
Ortodontska terapija može uvelike pridonijeti poboljšanju estetike osmijeha. Kada je riječ o parodontološkim pacijentima, pogotovo onima s uznapredovalim oblikom parodontne bolesti, često se pribjegava kombiniranoj parodontološko-ortodontskoj terapiji kao najboljem načinu za rješavanje estetskih, ali i funkcionalnih problema pacijenta. Svaka interdisciplinarna suradnja, kao i parodontološko-ortodontska, zahtjeva pomno planiranje tijeka terapijskog postupka u svrhu što bržeg i boljeg dobivanja očekivanog zajedničkog rezultata te reduciranja pojave mogućih nuspojava ili produživanja trajanja terapije. Postoje mnoga znanstvena istraživanja koja su ukazala na posljedice neadekvatno primijenjenih ortodontskih sila, no s druge strane i na odlične rezultate ostvarene suradnjom između dvije specijalističke grane, ali i između doktora i samog pacijenta. Daljnjim napredovanjem tehnologije i sve većom dostupnošću različitih terapijskih mogućnosti i materijala očekuje se još efikasnije rješavanje estetskih i funkcionalnih problema parodontoloških pacijenata uz pomoć i tijekom ortodontske terapije.
Abstract (english)
Orthodontic therapy can largely contribute to the improvement of dental aesthetics. When it comes to periodontal patients, especially those in the advanced stages of periodontal disease, dentists often resort to combined periodontal and orthodontic therapy as the most viable course of action for resolving the aesthetic and functional problems of a patient. Every interdisciplinary approach, such as the periodontal-orthodontic approach, requires a carefully planned course of therapy for the purpose of reaching a common goal that is practical and time-efficient, as well as preventative of potential negative side effects or of therapy prolongation. Much of the published scientific research on this matter has not only documented the consequences of inadequately applied orthodontic forces, but also the excellent results achieved by the cooperation of these two dental specialties as well as the cooperation of doctor and patient. With further technological advancements and wider availability of present treatment options and materials, periodontal patients’ aesthetic and functional problems are expected to be treated more efficiently and effectively with and during orthodontic therapy.
