Abstract
The thesis provides an overview and theoretical framework of findings in translation theory relevant for the recreation of the author‟s style and stylistic effect, along with the analysis of the primary issues related to the translation of style based on the translation of a chapter from Joyce Carol Oates‟ novel Because It Is Bitter, and Because It Is My Heart. It emphasizes the importance of a close reading and a stylist analysis of a literary text prior to translation. Moreover, the possibility of preserving the markers of author‟s individual style in a different language is discussed, along with the difficulty of recreating the stylistic effect of the original work in a different sociocultural context.
Abstract (croatian)
Ovaj diplomki rad donosi pregled spoznaja iz područja teorije prevođenja i teorijski okvir ključan za rekonstrukciju autorovog stila i efeka u prijevodu, te analizu primarnih problema vezanih uz prevođenje stila na temelju prijevoda poglavlja iz romana Jer ogorčeno je, i moje je srce Joyce Carol Oates. U radu se naglašava važnost pozornog čitanja i analize stila književnog djela prije njegovog prevođenja. Također, propituje se mogućnost očuvanja stilskih obiljejžja autorovog književnog stila u drugom jeziku i nemogućnost očuvanja originalnog efekta književnog djela u novom sociokulturnom kontekstu.
