Abstract
This thesis deals with the theme of feminism in Margaret Atwood’s short stories. In order to better address the issue, the first part of the paper provides a brief historical overview of feminism, and introduces the four existing feminist waves. Following the theoretical discussion on feminism, the paper presents the life and work of Margaret Atwood, the Canadian author whose novels and short stories are characterized by the feminist elements and narration from the female point of view. Through the feminist lens, it analyzes the themes of three short stories, “I Dream of Zenia With the Bright Red Teeth”, “Bad News”, and “Stone Mattress”, and tries to situate the author within the four existing waves of feminism. In addition, particular attention is given to the analysis of gender stereotyping of the old age, a problem which remains unaddressed or completely omitted from most contemporary feminist discourses. Finally, the paper provides translation of the three short stories into Croatian, and by offering a brief exploration of correlation between feminism and translation, gives reasons why this is not an example of feminist translation.

Ovaj se diplomski rad bavi temom feminizma u kratkim pričama Margaret Atwood. Kako bi se problematika što bolje razradila, prvi dio rada orijentiran je na kratki povijesni pregled feminizma. Sukladno tome, ukratko su predstavljena četiri postojeća feministička vala. Nakon teorijske razrade o feminizmu, dan je prikaz života i djela kanadske spisateljice Margaret Atwood, čiji se romani i kratke priče odlikuju feminističkim elementima i naraciji pristupaju sa ženskog gledišta. Kroz feminističku su perspektivu analizirane teme triju kratkih priča, Sanjam Zeniju svijetlocrvenih zuba, Loše vijesti i Kameni madrac, te se na temelju dobivenih rezultata autoricu pokušalo smjestiti u postojeće valove feminizma. Usto, posebna je pažnja pridana razradi rodnog stereotipiranja starije životne dobi, problema koji je i dalje često nedovoljno obrađen ili potpun izostavljen iz većine suvremenih feminističkih diskursa. Naposljetku, rad donosi prijevod triju spomenutih kratkih priča na hrvatski jezik te kratkim predstavljanjem međupovezanosti feminizma i prevođenja iznosi razloge zašto u ovom slučaju nije riječ o feminističkom prijevodu djela.
