Abstract
This diploma paper sets out to explore the influence of Dante Alighieri and his epic poem La Divina Commedia on T. S. Eliot’s The Waste Land and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, and how intertextuality functions in these two poems. Focusing mainly on the imagery, poetic structure and vocabulary, the paper draws parallels between Dante’s seminal work and Eliot’s poems, and attempts to demonstrate many ways in which Eliot employs Dante’s text, and refers and alludes to Dante in the selected poems.
Abstract (croatian)
Cilj ovoga diplomskog rada jest analiza utjecaja Dantea Alighierija i njegove Božanstvene komedije na T. S. Eliotove poeme Pusta zemlja i Ljubavna pjesma J. Alfreda Prufrocka, te način na koji intertekstualnost funkcionira u navedenim poemama. Rad je utemeljen na usporedbi Danteove Komedije kao polaznice i navedenih poema s naglaskom na pjesničku strukturu, pjesničke slike i leksik, kako bi se objasnilo na koji način funkcioniraju Eliotove aluzije i reference na Dantea u odabranim poemama.
