Abstract Teorija ambivalentnog seksizma objašnjava seksizam kroz benevolentna i hostilna
subjektivno pozitivan dojam o ženama, svoje temeljne pretpostavke dijele s hostilnim
seksizmom.
seksizam, ambivalentni seksizam i neseksista.
profil benevolentnog seksista.
Abstract (english) The ambivalent sexism theory explains sexism through benevolent and hostile beliefs, which
have opposing evaluative implications. Hostility towards women is the core of hostile sexism
and it is expressed through the idea that women are incompetent for agentic tasks and unfit
to wield power over economic, legal and political institutions. Despite the subjectively
positive impression of women that benevolent sexism promotes, it share its underlying
assumptions with hostile sexism. Thus, according to benevolent and hostile sexism, women
are the weaker sex (fragile and delicate, they need the help of the stronger sex), and should
embrace limited domestic roles. The aim of this study was to determine likability indexes
for several male profiles; male profile which describes hostile sexism, benevolent sexism,
ambivalent sexsism, and nonsexist profile. The study was conducted on 111 female students
of the University of Zadar. The results showed that women like the benevolent sexist profile
the most, and the hostile sexist profile the least. Ambivalent sexist and nonsexist differed
from each other in likability, ambivalent sexist was more likable. Furthermore, correlation
analysis showed that we can only argue for some items from hostile sexism subscale that the
higher the women’s hostile sexism is, the greater is their preference for the hostile sexist
male profile, and that we can only argue for some items from benevolent subscale that the
higher the women’s benevolent sexism is, the greater is their preference for the benevolent
sexist male profile.
