Abstract	One of the definitions of suspense is anxiety arising from an uncertain situation. Alfred Hitchcock was one of the best-known film directors and producers in the history of film making. He was called a Master of suspense. He was the first to create many elements of the suspense and psychological thriller genres. The task of this paper was to analyze elements of suspense in his movies Psycho, Vertigo and The Birds. This study proved that with the diversity of techniques suspense can be created and thus, audience is enabled to participate in a film both as a viewer and as a character.
Abstract (croatian)	Jedna od definicija neizvjesnosti je napetost koja proizlazi iz neizvjesne situacije. Alfred Hitchcock jedan je od najpoznatijih filmskih redatelja i producenata u povijesti filma. Zvali su ga majstorom neizvjesnosti. On je bio prvi koji je stvorio mnoge elemente neizvjesnosti i psihološkog žanra. Cilj ovog rada bio je analizirati elemente neizvjesnosti u njegovim filmovima Psiho, Vrtoglavica i Ptice. Ovaj rad pokazao je da se uz razne filmske tehnike može stvoriti neizvjesnost te da se na taj način može omogućiti publici da sudjeluje u filmu i kao gledatelj i kao lik.
