Old town Barilović is located in Karlovac County in Korana river basin. Research that was conducted in 2013 includes archaelozoological analysis of animal bone material excavated from Probe 1, in which there are many layers (stratigraphic units). Based on these stratigraphic units from which the samples were excavated, their belonging to one of three developing stages of the town was determined: Feudal phase (15th and 16th century), Military Frontier phase (from the 17th until the 19th century) and civilian administration phase (the end of 19th until the middle of 20th century). Total of 466 fragments (29,44%) were determined skeletonically and taxonomically. Majority of the sample belongs to mammals (Mammalia) 94%, followed by birds (Aves) with 5,79% and fishes (Pisces) with 0,21%. The number of identified specimens (NISP) and MNI (Minimal number of individuals) per mammal species varies depending on the phase. In Feudal phase %NISP is highest for pigs (43,64%), in the Military Frontier phase also for pigs (38,43%), while in the civilian administration phase this number is highest for small ruminants (40,54%). According to %MNI, this number is highest for small ruminants in all three phases (55,56-62,50%), while cattle and pigs are equally represented in Feudal phase (22,22%) and in Military Frontier phase (21,74%), but in civilian administration phase this number differs – %MNI for pigs 25%, and for small ruminants 12,50%. The age assesment was made on a small sample and the results show that animals of all age categories were present. Cut marks on a lot of fragments from domestic and wild animals point to their usage in nutrition. Birds were also a small part of nutrition. Presence of a person with a basic archaeozoology knowledge on a field during the archaelogical research contibutes to the research and reduces the number of additional material (ceramics, iron parts) that can be found during the investigation.
