Although it brings a number of short-term positive economic effects, mass tourism generates many detrimental effects on the area in which it takes place, the culture and the domicile population. Also, its distinct seasonality threatens the sustainability of tourism in the long run. Today, most destinations in the world want to develop selective tourism products, which will give them a long-term competitive advantage and environmental, economic, social, and cultural well-being. The aim of this final paper is to explore the possibilities of developing year-round sustainable tourism in the former Republic of Poljica. The purpose of the research is to gain insight into the current development of tourism in the former Poljica Republic and perspectives for the development of sustainable year-round tourism in this area. Compilation and preparation of the paper is based on the study of professional literature by methods of description, analysis, and synthesis. The primary tourist product in the area of the former Republic of Poljica is bathing tourism in the coastal part, in the area of Donja Poljica, where the majority of accommodation capacities are concentrated and where the majority of tourist arrivals and overnight stays are realized. The area of Srednja and Gornja Poljica is still not sufficiently included in tourist trends. The growth of tourist demand and the emergence of selective forms of tourism opens numerous opportunities for the development of year-round sustainable tourism in this area. Some households turn to rural tourism, and on the other hand the canyon of the river Cetina, the mountain Mosor and other natural beauties provide the opportunity for many sports activities. It is recommended to develop a unique combination of selective forms of tourism such as rural, gastronomic, and active tourism into a complete product, which would create opportunities for the Republic of Poljica to become a recognizable destination for year-round sustainable tourism. Further research should be conducted in order to improve the tourist offer of sustainable tourism.
