With new interactive media types, emerging on a horizon, debate on the impact of media on children is getting louder and louder, or to be more precise, debate on cause - effect relationship between the consumption of various forms of the mass media and children and adolescent behavior. Many would, without too much thinking, hastily make judgments about how inevitable it is that the media have a crucial impact on children, but the question is whether that is correct. If one starts to analyze only the facts, the facts will rapidly convince anyone that this problem and its potential anticipation and prevention, is much more complex. There are more and more types of media and their hybrids develop with incredible speed. The children and young people are ready to accept changes and new directions, much more than their parents who would have to be the ones to point them in the right direction and control. The implication is that media literacy, as for parents and professional staff in educational institutions, as well for children themselves, is essential for the proper use of mass media.
