The technology of unmanned aerial vehicles (or drones – a term that will be used in this graduate thesis) was originally designed for military use and to facilitate the execution of military actions. For example, from bombing operations from safe distance through logistical assistance to spyware and surveillance actions in the areas of the warring countries themselves. Over time, people realized that unmanned aviation technology can also be used efficiently for civilian purposes in order to improve the quality of life and relieve certain activities that the man had to do in by himself. Today, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles is the most normal thing in commercial activities such as package delivery, traffic monitoring, border controls, and various inspections of inaccessible infrastructure, further more, the potential use of drones in future is almost unlimited. In this graduate thesis the topic is elaborated through a systematic overview of the characteristics and capabilities of unmanned aerial vehicles that are currently in use with the aim of detecting activities within the civil sector where their use potentially helps and relieves need of human involvement. The emphasis of research in graduate thesis is the analysis of the use of drones for civil purposes, from their emergence through development to the examination of legal regulations without which the use of drones in practice is impossible.
