Abstract
Heavy metal contamination poses a great threat to the environment ever since the beginning of industrialization, with different pathways of heavy metals entering the soil system. To ensure secure natural resources for the future it was important to find the least expensive, most efficient ways of soil remediation that has both small and large scale application. Phytoremediation of the soil is one of the options for soil remediation. This is an accessible, low costing alternative to phisical and chemical soil treatments. In this thesis, three plant species – radish, oilseed and cannabis were grown in the soil contaminated with cadmium, copper, lead and zinc during 38 day experiment to test their abilities to successfully remediate soils from contaminations without exhibiting signs of stress or injuries. During observations it was determined that in this trial radish plants showed significant adaptability and ability to remediate contaminated soils compared to other tested plants.

Kontaminacija teškim metalima predstavlja rizik okolišu od početka industrijalizacije. Nove metode proizvodnje doprinjele su novim putevima ulaska teških metala u tlo. Kako bi se osigurali sigurni i ne onečišćeni resursi u budućnosti, potrebno je pronaći najjeftiniji i najučinkovitiji način remedijacije tla koji je primjenjiv na malim površinama jednako kao i na većim razinama. Fitoremedijacija tla je jedna od prihvatljivih opcija. Ova metoda je pristupačna i ekonomski isplativija alternativa od fizikalnog ili kemijskoj tretiranja tla. U ovom radu tri biljne vrste- rotkvica, uljana repica i kanabis uzgajani su u tlu kontaminiranim kadmijem, bakrom, olovom i cinkom tijekom 38 dnevnog eksperimenta kako bi se testirale njihove sposobnosti remedijacije tla te uspješnost rasta u nepovoljnim uvjetima bez iskazivanja znakova stresa i ozljeda biljaka. Tijekom promatranja biljaka utvrđeno je da rotkvice pokazuje značajnu sposobnost adaptacije i sposobnost remedijacije kontaminiranih tla u usporedbi s ostalim testiranim biljkama.
