Abstract
Dormantnost je pojava kada sjeme neke kulture ne klije iako za klijanje postoje povoljni uvjeti. To je karakteristika sjemena koja sprječava klijanje pri optimalnoj temperaturi te optimalnoj količini vode i kisika. Cilj ovog diplomskog rada bio je: (1) utvrditi razlike u duljini trajanja dormantnosti između izabranih sorata ječma (Favorit i Bc Vedran), za koje je prethodno utvrđeno da je njihovo sjeme dormantno nakon žetve, (2) utvrditi utjecaj zagrijanog i hladnog zraka kojem će sjeme izabranih sorata ječma biti izloženo na dormantnost, (3) istražiti utjecaj uloge pljevica u dormantnosti izabranih sorata ječma, (4) utvrditi razlike u broju korjenčića između sjemenki različitih prema veličini i (5) odrediti količinu dodane vode pri kojoj će sjeme ječma početi klijati. Rezultati istraživanja pokazuju da su obje sorte bile dormantne 9 tjedana u prvoj godini istraživanja i 8 tjedana u drugoj godini istraživanja. Tretiranjem zagrijanim zrakom (45°C; 15min i 30min) te tretiranjem hladnim zrakom (3°C i 8°C; 24h, 48h i 72h) nije značajno postignuto skraćivanje dormantnosti. Povećanje klijavosti sjemena dva kultivara (Favorit 99% i Bc Vedran 100%) postignuto je tretmanom mehaničke skarifikacije sjemena. S obzirom na činjenicu da odabrani tretmani nisu utjecali na smanjenje dormantnosti dviju sorata (Favorit i Bc Vedran), nužno je provesti dodatne tretmane s ciljem skraćivanja dormantnosti.

Dormancy is a phenomenon when the seed of species is unable to germinate although there are favorable environmental conditions. This characteristic of the seed prevents germination under a optimal temperature, optimal amount of water and oxygen supply. The aim of this thesis was: (1) to determine whether there were differences among duration of dormancy between two cultivars of barley (Favorit and Bc Vedran) in which has been identified dormancy after harvest, (2) determine the infuence of heat treatment and cold stratification on dormancy of chossen barley cultivars, (3) to investigate the role of glumellae in dormancy of chosen barley cultivars, (4) to determine the diffrences in number of seminal roots between seeds diferent in size i (5) to determine the amount of water for inititation of barley germination. The results of investigation shows that both cultivars were dormant 9 weeks in the first year of resarch and 8 weeks in the second year of resarch. Application of heat treatment (45°C; exposure 15min and 30min) and cold stratification (3°C and 8°C; exposure 24h, 48h and 72h) has had no major effect on shortening of dormancy period. The treatment of mechanical stratification increase seed germination of two cultivars (Favorit 99% and Bc Vedran 100%). Considering that chosen treatments showed little or no effect on shortening of the dormancy in case of two barley cultivars (Favorit and Bc Vedran), it is necessary to apply other treatments with goal of shortening the period of dormancy.
