Abstract	Smeđi medvjed najveći je hrvatski kopneni predator. Pripada jednoj od najrasprostranjenijih živućih vrsta sisavaca na svijetu, a njegova distribucija obuhvaća gotovo cijelu sjevernu hemisferu. Upravo zbog ovakve velike rasprostranjenosti i postojanja dvije genetski različite linije, smeđi medvjed je zanimljiv za promatranje raznolikosti mitohondrijske DNA. Ideja rada je utvrditi kojoj od dvije linije smeđeg medvjeda pripada hrvatska populacija medvjeda, ali i utvrditi općenitu raznolikost smeđeg medvjeda u Europi i svijetu. U radu su korišteni nukleotidni sljedovi preuzeti iz NCBI banke gena te računalni programi koji omogućuju filogenetske analize. Filogenetske mreže su potvrdile pripadnost hrvatske populacije smeđeg medvjeda zapadnoj liniji te su potvrdile međusobnu užu povezanost populacija koje žive na bliskim staništima u svijetu. Analize su pokazale da mitohondrijska DNA vjerno i točno prikazuje povezanost između populacija smeđeg medvjeda kako u Europi tako i u svijetu.
Abstract (english)	Brown bear is Croatia’s largest predator. It is also a member of one of the most widespread mammalian species in the world, its distribution including majority of the northern hemisphere. Being a species so widely distributed with addition of existence of two genetically distinct lineages is what makes brown bear so interesting in terms of studying mitochondrial DNA. Main idea of this thesis is to determine affiliation of Croatian brown bear relative to bear lineages, and also to show overall diversity of this large carnivore in Europe and the World. To be able to cope with phylogenetic analysis requires the use of adequate software tools. Phylogenetic networks have not only confirmed the affiliation of Croatian brown bear with the western lineage, but also shown existence of stronger connection between populations inhabiting neighboring areas. Analysis have shown that mitochondrial DNA is suitable and moreover, very correct and reliable in inferring about connection between populations of brown bear in Europe as well as in the World.
