Abstract	Jazz glazba za mene je uvijek predstavljala neku vrstu misterije i romantike. Slušanje i gledanje jazz glazbenika izazivalo je u meni posebne ugođaje i osjećaje. Želio sam o toj glazbi pokušati više saznati. Jazz ili, bolje rečeno, ideja jazza jedan je od razloga zbog kojih se bavim glazbom. U ranoj mladosti fascinirala me snimka kontrabasista Raya Browna. Lakoća, samouvjerenost i virtuoznost kojom je svirao nisu odavale koliko je zapravo teško fizički i psihički svirati kontrabas. Tako mi se tema ovog rada prirodno nametnula. Pokušati prodrijeti dublje u Brownov lik, filozofiju i stil sviranja cilj su ovog rada. Također, osvrnut ću se na prilike vremena u kojemu se razvijao, utjecaje na njegovo sviranje, te njegov vlastiti utjecaj na mlađe generacije i pedagoški rad. Na kraju, analizirat ću na primjerima njegov prepoznatljiv pristup walking bass linijama, ritmičke figure koje koristi i druge odlike koje čine Raya Browna jednim od najutecajnjijih jazz kontrabasista u povijesti.
Abstract (english)	Jazz music has always represented some sort of mystery and romance to me. Watching and listening to jazz musicians play awakens in me special atmospheres and feelings. Naturally, I wanted to learn more about this style of music. Jazz, or, better said, the idea of jazz, is one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career in music. When I was younger, I saw a recording of jazz bassist Ray Brown playing that completely fascinated me. The ease, confidence, and virtuosity with which he played did not reflect the physical and mental strains one has to overcome to play double bass. This is what prompted me to write this paper. The objective of this paper is to discuss Brown's character, philosophy and playing style. Moreover, it will examine the situation in which Brown started playing, his early inspiration and influences, as well as his own influence on younger generations and his educational work. Finally, it will analyze his unique approach to jazz bass lines, rhythm drops and variations, and other characteristics that make Ray Brown one of the most important jazz bass players ever.
