Abstract	Ovaj rad donosi kratki pregled povijesti gitare u bidermajerskom Beču, razmjerno opširnu biografiju Ivana Padovca s težištem na izvođačkom aspektu njegova života i biografije osam značajnih gitarista skladatelja i Padovčevih suvremenika koji su djelovali u Beču u prvoj polovici 19. stoljeća. Cilj rada je pozicionirati Padovca u kontekst djelovanja gitarista skladatelja prve polovice 19. stoljeća, valorizirati njegov značaj i doprinos te usporediti njegovu karijeru s karijerama njegovih suvremenika.
Abstract (english)	This paper provides a brief overview of the history of the guitar in Biedermeier Vienna, a relatively extensive biography of Ivan Padovec with a focus on the performing aspect of his career, and biographies of eight important guitarists and composers, Padovec's contemporaries, who performed in Vienna in the first half of the 19th century. The aim of the paper is to position Padovec within the context of the activities of guitarist composers of the first half of the 19th century, to valorize his significance and contribution, and to compare his career with the careers of his contemporaries.
