Abstract	Rad obuhvaća općenito temu pretilosti, te dijagnostičke kriterije u određivanju pretilosti. Istraživanja su pokazala povezanost imunosnog sustava s masnim tkivom, leptinom, adiponektinom, hormonom rasta i masnim kiselinama, te promijenjeni broj i aktivnost citokina i ostalih imunosnih parametara u pretilih osoba. Različiti nutrijenti imaju različito djelovanje na imunosni sustav, od kojih se smatra da lipidi imaju najveći utjecaj. Najčešća posljedica središnje pretilosti je poremećena sposobnost odgovora na djelovanje inzulina, odnosno inzulinska rezistencija čiji je mehanizam objašnjen. Liječenje pretilosti uključuje promjene načina života, primjenu lijekova, bihevioralnu terapiju i, u krajnjem slučaju, operativno liječenje.
Abstract (english)	This paper describes general definition of obesity and diagnostic criteria for obesity. Studies have found linkage between immune system and fat mass, leptin, adiponectin, growth hormone and fatty acids. There are altered concentrations of cytokines at obese people. Different nutrients have different impact on immune system, and lipids are the most influential. Insulin resistance is a state of impaired responsiveness to insulin action and the most common cause is central obesity. Treatment of obesity involves lifestyle changes, medical therapy, behavioral therapy and in extreme cases surgery.
