Abstract	Bamija (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) je jednogodišnja, grmolika biljka iz porodice Malvaceae. Pripada skupini toploljubivih biljaka za koju se smatra da je porijeklom iz Indije, a tradicionalno se uzgaja u zapadnoj Africi, Indiji, južnoj Aziji, južnom dijelu SAD-a i Turskoj. Bamija je biljka visoke nutritivne vrijednosti čije su sjemenke dobar izvor ulja i proteina, a mogu se koristiti i kao zamjena kavi, dok pak mljeveno zrno bamije je dobra zamjena za aluminijeve soli u sustavu za pročišćavanje vode. Sastoji se od korijena, stabljike, lista, cvijeta i na kraju ploda različitog oblika i dužine ovisno o kultivaru. Koristi se u kulinarstvu, za pripravu čajeva i sirupa, kozmetici i medicini. Posjeduje brojna ljekovita svojstva, prihvaćena je kao kvalitetan lijek u borbi protiv mnogih želučanih i drugih bolesti. U Hrvatskoj je nedovoljno poznata, iako se uzgaja i kod nas. Uzgajati se može u zaštićenom prostoru i na otvorenom polju.
Abstract (english)	Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) is an annual, shrub-like plant belonging to the family Malvaceae. It belongs to a group of plants that grows very quickly with high temperatures. Okra is considered to originate from India, but it's traditionally grown in West Africa, India, South Asia, the southern part of the United States and Turkey. Okra has a high nutritional value whose seeds are a good source of protein and oil, and are also used as a coffee substitute, while ground-up okra seeds have been used as a substitute for aluminum salts in water purification. It consists of a root, stem, leaf, flower and fruit at the end of various shapes and lengths depending on the cultivar. It is used in cooking, for preparing tea and syrups, cosmetics and medicine. It has many medicinal properties, has been accepted as a reliable remedy in the fight against many stomach and other diseases. Croatia is insufficiently known, although it is grown in our country. Breeds may be in protected areas and in the open field.
