Abstract
Vela spila (Korčula) je atraktivno kvartarno nalazište kontinuirano proučavano dugi niz godina. Brojni su nalazi kostiju morskih beskralježnjaka, svih razreda kralježnjaka, ali i tragova ljudske aktivnosti. Iz uzorka sakupljenog tijekom iskopne sezone 2004. godine izdvojene su ptičje kosti koje su bile anatomski i taksonomski determinirane te su na njima određivani i proučavani brojni tafonomski tragovi, uz provođenje tradicionalnih morfometrijskih metodi. U uzorku je tako određeno 14 vrsta ptica raspoređenih u sedam redova u plesitocenskom, te 25 vrsta ptica raspoređenih u 12 redova u holocenskom dijelu uzorka. Utvrđeni su novi taksoni do sada neidentificirani na ovom nalazištu: Corvus frugilegus, Sturnus vulgaris, Aythya cf. nyroca, Accipiter nisus za pleistocen te Gallinula chloropus, Accipiter gentilis, S. vulgaris, Phalacrocorax cf. carbo, a moguće i Ardeola. ralloides za holocen. Sve utvrđene vrste i rodovi, sa svojim pripadajućim staništima, su i danas prisutni na širem području oko Vele spile. Ljudi i sove su bili glavni čimbenici akumulacije skeletnih ostataka.
Abstract (english)
Vela spila cave (Korčula island) is an attractive Quaternary locality which is in the centre of research focus for several years. Many skeletal remains of various vertebrate and invertebrate classes were found, including numerous traces of human activity. Bird bones separated from the sample collected in 2004 were included in an anatomical, taxonomical, and taphonomical analysis. Traditional morphometric methods were also used. There were 14 bird species across seven orders determined for a Pleistocene part of the sample, and 25 species across 12 orders determined for a Holocene part of the sample. Following taxa are determined for the first time at this locality: Corvus frugilegus, Sturnus vulgaris, Aythya cf. nyroca, Accipiter nisus for the Pleistocene, and Gallinula chloropus, Accipiter gentilis, S. vulgaris, Phalacrocorax cf. carbo, and possibly Ardeola ralloides for the Holocene. All determined avitaxa, with their respective habitat types, are present today in the wide area around the locality. Skeletal remains were mainly accumulated by the hominids and owls.
