The subject of this research is the status of Geography as a school subject within the existing educational system and changes that were made in the Geography as the result of general changes in Croatian educational system, that started to emerge with introduction of Croatian National General Curiculum. The question that this study answers is what actually Geography's object of study in schools is and how this concept differs from the definition of Geography as a science. This study covers basic knowledge of methods, gives knowledge and skills that students should master after finishing geographical education in elementary and secondary schools, gives summary of plans and programs of Geography in primary and secondary schools, and analyses requirements that are set upon students and teachers. Geography is represented as a link between natural and social groups of subjects, as the subject of great national importance and as the subject with its own specific methods of teaching that differ Geography from other subjects. This article presents an overview of Geography as a subject in schools with a methodical facts (tasks, goals), and theoretical analysis of Geography as a subject that has evolved from Geography as a science.
