Abstract Ovaj rad bavi se fenomenom hrane i prehrane suvremenog pojedinca iz sociološke perspektive. Širi istraživački kontekst o odnosu suvremenog pojedinca i (pre)hrane su pružila saznanja autora Luptona, Murcotta, Mennella i van Otterlooa o (pre)hrani, njezinim (integrativnim) funkcijama i percepciji osobnosti pojedinaca kroz vrstu i načine konzumiranja hrane. Istraživački dio rada baziran je na kvalitativnoj metodologiji metodom fokus grupe održane tijekom travnja 2020. godine putem virtualne platforme Microsoft Teams.
Abstract (english) This paper deals with the phenomenon of food and nutrition of the modern individual from a sociological perspective. The theoretical framework used the theory of modernization and authors such as Giddens, Back and Zeman whose problematization of high or late modernity pointed to the importance of reflective individuals who are left to themselves and their own (re) choices in the domain of body control, health and nutrition. The broader research context on the relationship between the modern individual and food/diet was provided by the findings of Lupton, Murcott, Mennell and van Otterloo on food/diet, its (integrative) functions and the perception of individuals personality through the type and ways of consuming food. The research part of the paper is based on a qualitative methodology using the focus group method held during April 2020 through the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. Participants were selected using the snowball technique according to the criteria of experiencing changes in eating habits, informed about all ethical standards of research with guaranteed anonymity Participants were students selected by the snowball method, informed of all ethical standards of research with guaranteed anonymity. Participants definitions and views on healthy food/diet, average meal and favorite food, beautiful and desirable body in theory and how to achieve it in practice, personality of a modern (fit) individual, motives for changing eating habits and accompanying psycho-physical transformation and reaction of others to achieved changes were analyzed. Based on the testimonies of the participants, it was noticed that the decision to change the diet was related to aesthetic and health reasons. The participants report the results achieved in the physical, mental and social fields, just as they strive to maintain and improve them by introducing changes at different levels of fit, healthy, active lifestyle. It was conluded that the attitude towards food and nutrition was seen as project of the examined participants, which is in line with the notion of a reflexive individual who strives for control over his own body and life. Based on the research for the purposes of this thesis, the necessary interdisciplinarity of different professions and sciences (nutrition, sociology, anthropology, kinesiology, psychology, etc.) in the explanation of the phenomenon of food/diet of the modern individual was noticed. It is recommended that future research focus on the implications of individualization of food/diet and the main motives by which modern individuals are guided by their own but new social values, especially in the context of the development of social networks.
