Abstract Tema mog završnog rada je Epidemiologija nesreća.
modernog vremena.
starijoj životnoj dobi, iznad 65 godina, smrtni ishodi su najčešći zbog padova, samoubojstava
i nesreća u cestovnom prometu.
Abstract (english) The subject of my final thesis is Epidemiology of accidents. The paper describes the
concept of accidents, history of accidents, which are the most common causes of accidents,
who are the victims, according to age and gender, what is the image of accidents in Croatia in
comparison with other European countries, and what are the types of prevention and how we
can influence suppression of accidents, which are epidemics of modern times. Accidents are a
major social and therefore a public health problem. Statistical data indicate how many
accidents frequently occur and what impact they have on the entire population, along with it's
serious consequences. Gender is one of the most important epidemiological factors that affect
the occurrence of accidents. 2-3 times more likely to get killed are men than women. The
three highest risk age group of people in the total population are children under 14 years,
young adults aged 15-24 and older people aged 65 and over. The children participate mostly
in road traffic accident resulting in death, where children participate as pedestrians. In young
adulthood accidents with fatal ending are most common in road traffic, where they participate
as drivers of motor vehicles, and in dangerous sports. In old age, over 65 years, most common
fatalities are due to falls, suicides and accidents in road traffic. The leading external causes of
death from injury in accidents in Croatia in 2014 were: falls (41%), suicide (26%) and traffic
accidents (13%). The standardized mortality rate in accidents for all ages for Croatia in 2008
amounted to 57.1 / 100 000 and was higher than the EU average (38.6 / 100,000), but
significantly lower than the average of the countries of the European region (73.6 / 100,000).
