‘Žlahtina’ is the most important Vitis Vinifera autochthonous variety at the area of Primorsko-goranska county, especially on the island of Krk. With the clonal selection of this variety, which actually started in 2005., some positive changes were confirmed regarding the economically important properties such as yield level, content of sugar and acidity in the must etc. During the process of clonal selection, the goal is to determine whether there are any differences registered in aromatic compounds of grape varieties, which will have a major effect while dealing with white grape varieties because they condition the final level of quality and primary aroma of the wine. The research was carried out on twelve different clonal candidates of the ‘Žlahtina’ variety. Grape sampling was done during the phase of full ripeness in 2015, within the varieties' experimental plantings in Vrbnik at the island of Krk. The analysis were made in the Institute for grape and wine Agriculture faculty in Zagreb. The differences in the visual evaluation as well as in the chemical analysis were registered within all the clones. The greatest differences observed were referring to the aromatic composition where the clones differed in the concentration of the particular compound and the total concentration of the aromatic compounds. Some clones were more dominated by terpenes, and some by norisoprenoids. On average, beta-damaskenon and geranic acid dominated. Rose oxide was not detected in any of the clones. The clone OB343 had the highest measured concentration of all four analyzed compounds as well as the highest total concentration of aromatic compounds, and therefore showed the best results in terms of primary aromas. The clone OB357 had the lowest measured concentration of all six compounds. Clone OB182 had the lowest total concentration of all analyzed compounds.
